The after market 750 GB Hitachi hard drive in my late 2009 17" MBP is failing after less than one year. The Mac side won't start, but the Bootcamp side will. The last time I backed up using Time Machine was nine months ago (I know, shame on me). Amazingly, the damage somehow made the Mac partition readable from the Bootcamp side, so I used a PC formatted external hard drive to pull the data off.

My two questions:

1) Should I use the old Time Machine backup after I install a new hard drive, and then try to manually add the last nine months of data? Or should I just start from scratch with the up-to-date date from the external hard drive.

2) Other than using a network (which I do not have access to), how can I extract the data from a PC formatted drive to the Mac side?

Thanks in advance for your help.
