I'm looking to replace my hard drive in my Macbook Pro.. Im just curious what is the best 500GB internal hard drive out there?

Thanks

I have the Seagate version and it's okay.

I got the 5k version over the 7k because every review and speed test I read about says the 7k is only marginally faster than the 5k so I saved $30.

The only gripe I have about it is when it's worked, it's LOUD and it BEEPS constantly until it idles down.

That being the only issue though, I think it was worth the $100 I paid for it.

I've had it for about three months now.

Well.. the reason im wanting a new drive and maybe I don't need one.. but I have the Western Digital 500GB ( WD5000BEVT ) and the other day I just finished downloading a 1GB file and when it was done my hard drive made a beeping noise.. it only beeped once but all the info I found while googling said it means its failing...
is that wrong.

I have the WD 500g Scorpio Blue (same drive as you have) and it's been in my MBP for a couple months of heavy duty - so far so good. Extremely quiet in operation, no vibrations. I haven't heard it ever do a beep sound like you're describing, but I recommend downloading and trying SMART Utility and seeing what it says about your drive.

Has anyone gotten SMART Utility to work with the Intel X25-M drive? Mine is either not reading properly or about to fail...

I got "Pre-Fail" and "Old Age" on my drive also yet its been fine for 16 days of uptime so far. I do have back ups using Time Machine so theres some back up going on but I dont get with all the errors popping up also.
