My WD 500GB is no longer being recognized by my MacBook Pro. It powers up okay, and the disk is spinning quietly, but neither the firewire or USB connections bring it up in Finder or Disk Utility. Is there any hope or is it dead?

Does it show up in Disk Utility? Have you tried running DU repairs on it? What happens when you hook it up to a different computer?

The HD does not show up in Disk Utility or my G4 Powerbook. Not good. Otherwise it sounds okay - no grinding or clicking, etc.
