are all hard drives compatible? i think so but i want to know for sure. i know apple has little things they do to make you buy apple stuff

Internal drive? Any ATA/IDE drive will do, not a SATA one. It's highly probable that the iMac will only be able to 'see' and use 128Gb so there's no point in getting a larger drive.

Opening them up can be awkward but here's a guide.

i have already opened it up and replaced the ram. it was odd to find another memory module on the bottom of the processor
