Hard Drive for video files/editing

What external HD can you recommend? At least 1TB...

Using Mac, obviously.

Would it be smart to use the same drive for Time Machine?

Any external FW800 HDD will do, most prominently the MyBook Studio Edition from Western Digital. You can also buy your own HDD and get an enclosure at www.macsales.com.

Better get an extra HDD for Time Machine or only run Time Machine during non-editing times.

Btw, what software do you want to use to edit and what kind of footage will you use?

I'm just getting into video. I have a Canon HF S20, so it will be AVCHD.

I plan on getting FCE shortly, as of now iMovie 08. I am already not happy with the quality after exporting from iMovie. Maybe I am just not using the right settings.

Any tips for good workflow would be appreciated.
