So I have a collection of movies that I have ripped onto a large drive at varying degrees of bitrates and qualities. For maximum compatibility in a 100% Mac household (and because I leave it hooked up to an Xbox most of the time) the drive is currently formatted to FAT32.
Of course this presents me with the problem of a damned 4 gig file size limit. Plus, I really do miss journaling when disk errors pop up. There have been a few cases where I have had to rerip some media due to a single failed sector. I did finally read that the Xbox 360 is compatible with HFS+, which is weird because it's not even compatible with NTFS.
After messing around with it and a USB stick last night, I was able to get the USB stick formatted so it worked on the 360. Basically I had to format to "Mac OS Extended", but with the partition table type set to MBR.
It definitely seems like a weird combination, especially since the other two partition table types are Mac specific.
I was wondering if anybody else has had to deal with this and could offer any advice, especially with regards to the stability of this weird combination of partition table type and format.
Thanks!
