hard drive icon gone

hi
my icon for the hard drive is gone and i cant get it back

i've repaired the permissions, restarted checked the finder boxes ticked

no joy?

any suggestions

makes you miss pre osx, rebuilding the desktop was the *****

Have you tried trashing the Finder preferences and restarting?
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist

Also, make sure you haven't accidentally unticked the checkbox for showing hard disks on the desktop in the Finder preferences.
