My 17 Pro Max is making what sounds like hard drive noises when plugged into the charger and it varies based on if you’re using the phone or letting it idle. It doesn’t matter what charger or method I use it has been repetitive still. I reported this to Apple about a week ago now and they haven’t been able to acknowledge anything other than they have replicated it but have no recourse. Occurs even after restarts of the phone. Can’t upload an audio clip apparently so I’ll try to find another way.

It’s normal for devices to make some kind of high pitched noise when plugged in. You shouldn’t be able to hear it unless your ear is right next to your device.

Coil whine is not indicative of a defective device and is completely benign. I have a PS4 with bad coil whine since 2014 and it’s still running like a champ in 2025.

Okay well then it’s a little relieving to know. The issue is it’s coming through in video or audio recordings/calls using the phone mic

Thanks I’m aware of the return policy but Apple provides us with One by default as employees. Reading up on the other posts and I’m cautious to exchange it just yet. It does seem like a hardware defect

Yep, I also made a post about this issue. I wouldn't describe it as a hard drive but it's a very faint hissing/crackling sound whenever the phone is charging or playing audio at really low volume levels. Have to get it super close to my ear to even notice though. I was offered a replacement but I don't think I'm going to bite until a new batch comes out.

Also, I confirmed with Apple Support that the phone is totally eligible for a replacement for one year since this issue is covered by the warranty. No need to return by the end of this week.

Ok never mind, they're playing games with me. I got my return window extended. I really think I'm going to have to give this phone back because the hissing sounds come up in videos.
