i have an imac g5 non intel and it did the grey screen and the several languages of please restart your computer which i guess means something serious is wrong somewhere ?

as i have a lot of stuff i want on the drive i tried to boot from the cd/dvd now i could get the icons up for the install or the hardware test on the disc showing , but if i try the boot from disc i get the grey screen and please restart warning , but it will run the hardware test ? , now i have heard ram problems can do stupid things and as i had 2x1gb chips installed by apple i thought i would try taking one out and then swapping them around , guess what , same still happens , it will not boot at all

ahh haa i thought lets try to do the firewire transfer between it and my new one , and it killed my new intel and another mac i have with the same freeze and grey screen and the warning please restart

so i had a brainwave , if the circuits in the mac are damaged and if i take the drive out and put it into an external case it will work ok ?

no such luck it still gives me the locked up mac and the grey screen saying please restart

so my question is i guess the disc is as good as dead and the information on the disc is lost and i need a new disc , or is there a way without costing me a small fortune ???
