I recently purchased a new MacBook, and have found Front Row to be very slick. As such, I am looking to rip all of my DVDs (150+) to h.264 so that I can store all the DVDs in a box somewhere, and furthermore be able to carry my entire movie collection with me much more easily. I am looking for suggestions to make this as portable as possible. I'm going to have to go with 3.5" hard drive form factor since I'll need more than 250GB of storage space, and would like to keep the storage costs under $150-$200. I see that WiebeTech used to make a bus-powered FireWire enclosure, but it has been discontinued. Has anyone else done something like this, what are your impressions?

I have an inventory of Movies on my external drive and had no problems.

The way I had to get it to work, was include a shortcut in "My Videos" that links to the external hard drive collection of Movies.

As for an external hard drive - I've always had a love for Iomega. There is a 500GB USB drive for about $200.
