Okay, so I know a fair deal about computer hardware, but I'm still getting my bearings. Hard drives have always escaped my comprehension.

I'm aware of people using the Optibay to have two hard drives in their MBPs, and I'm interested in this.

I'd like to use the speed of a SSD with the capacity of an old-fashioned HDD. Is it possible to store everything on a large HDD while booting off of a smaller SSD for a speed increase?

If this is an idiotic question, I'm sorry. If this isn't possible, what reason (beyond extra storage space) is there for having two hard drives?
