If the iMac has been opened will Apple still honour the replacement program?

I have a last ditch attempt to get the data off my failed hard drive by taking it out first.

I have already been to the Genius bar and they tested my iMac and said it was eligible for the program, I came away as I wanted to try and get the data first. Therefore they do have a record of my visit. Surely it is the 'serial number' of the HDD that is important.

Has anyone successfully had theirs replaced after the machine being opened?

Thanks

As this isn't a typical AC issues, rather a HDD replacement, I wouldn't think it would be a problem especially since all of the iMacs that are covered are already out of warranty.

However, I have no insider information or firsthand experience.

They didn't even question my ODD being replaced with an SSD. As long as there are no signs of damage, you should be all good.
