Hi Guys, I couldn't find this exact question so I hope you don't mind me asking here:

My iMacs HDD has failed (sorta) and I have an appointment to take it to an approved repairers (no warranty). If it is indeed a crapped out HDD and it gets replaced, I'm assuming I can do a simple restore from time machine (I have a WD firewire ex.HDD). The only issue I have is, I have recently moved house, and can't find my snow leopard disk, I have the original leopard disk though. Obviously my TM back-ups are from my snow leopard installation. If the repairers replace the HDD and reinstall leopard from the original disks, can I then restore my iMac from TM to how it was before it crapped out, or will I need to install snow leopard first? I'm willing to buy another copy if I can't find it, but if I can avoid that I will.

While on the subject of TM restore, I'm assuming it's a painless task to do? This is the first time I've had any serious problem with my iMac so it's all a bit new to me.

Thanks so much in advance to anyone willing to help out.

Neil.

Edit: Just been browsing around, looks like replacing the hard drive myself wouldn't be too difficult? I had already been considering upgrading it to 1TB. How do I know what drives are compatible? Is it a too risky process to replace myself?
