I've had this G5 for well over a year but after Leopard was installed a month ago(December) it has, on occasion sounded like it was going to explode. I've never heard the fans this loud and i'm sure the hard drive is also going at high speed. Is there any way to fix this "problem"? Incidentally, the screen also goes black and there's no way to prompt the system without just shutting it down and restarting. Thanks in advance.

I've heard other G5 owners tell of this bug, especially when waking from sleep. It ought to be fixed in 10.5.2, but we won't know for sure until it's released.

Revving up of the fans can cause be one of 2 things. 1) processors need to be re-calibrated or 2) one or both of the processors may have bad temperature sensor.

Unfortunately, the processors can only be recalibrated by running the Apple Service Diagnostic utility which is only available for Apple Authorized Service Centers.

Also, there is a firmware update for the fans in the Powermac G5.
