I have an iPhone 5 that won't boot. When it did it had a lock code. Do I need to worry about the info on the hard drive? If so is there any way to wipe it given that it won't boot not even into recovery mode or firmware update mode? Any help greatly appreciated...

If it was running iOS8 or later, and it has a passcode, then no, you shouldn't need to worry.

The filesystem is encrypted and assuming it's not corrupted, the casual person won't be able to get into it unless they manage to guess the passcode.

If the filesystem IS corrupted, then the data is a total loss.

FYI: iPhones don't have hard drives. They use Solid State memory.
