Ordering a MacBook Pro. Deciding what size SSD to get. I’d like to get 1TB, but hesitate since it’s $600 more than 256GB, and $400 more than 512GB.
I can get a 2TB external hard drive for $70.
I’d like 1TB
I think I need 512GB
Maybe I can squeeze by with 256GB (to save money).
Is it even a good idea to have all of one’s own documents on the laptop SSD in the first place?
Or keep them all on a separate external drive?
Some people say only use apps on their laptop’s SSD. If so, 256 should be ok, right?
I don't do professional video editing (yet). maybe in distant future though.
Right now just editing a few basic clips to throw up on YouTube now and then.
Another catch:
I don't really like the direction MacBook Pros have taken, so I'm thinking this 2015 model may be the last one suitable for me. So it might pay to beef it up its specs for longevity's sake.
Any thoughts or insights?!?
Go with smaller hard drive with some smart file management?
Or spend many hundred extra for more head room?
