Computer: iMac, 2011, SSD + HD, OSX 10.8.3
Recently, I've been noticing that the the hard drive (not the SSD) gets hung up on certain actions, all of which are intermittent:
Deleting or moving files, I'll get the "preparing to move files" dialog box for an extended period.
I'll open a folder and no files are displayed in the finder. Maybe they'll show up in 10 seconds, maybe never unless I restart finder. Or all the file icons in list view are just blank white icons, and then the proper ones will slooooooowly pop up.
The SMART status is "verified." Also, if I'm looking at the same folder that isn't displaying any files in finder, from my Windows virtual machine, it's perfectly fine. In fact, none of the quirks I have described are apparent via Windows. So I'm hoping this isn't a hardware problem.
What should I try? Thanks for any suggestions.
