I have noticed the hard drive seems to run constantly in my new Penryn MacBook Pro. The spinning sounds as if something is always running or installing in the background. Is this normal on the new MacBooks.
How long have you let it run for? It could be that Spotlight is still indexing the files on your hard drive. Do you use any downloading programs like Transmission which would be constantly writing to the disk?

Are you certain it is the hard drive running and not the fans?
Open up 'Activity Monitor' and click on 'Disk Activity'. If the counters for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec are not 0, then there is disk activity. If they are 0, then there is not currently disk activity.
