I noticed that my mac mini is always saying a different amount of hard drive space is left. For instance just now I deleted a screen saver I didn't want. It went from 36.7 gigs left to 35.7 gigs left after the delete. There is NO way the screen saver is over one gig.

In my experience, if an HD begins to lose the ability to know what its capacity is, it may be beginning to die.

Sometimes it can just be temp files that get deleted on reboot or sleep image size changes (for when you sleep the machine). I wouldn't worry about it.

Whether your hard drive is failing or not, it has nothing to do with it.
