You don't want to know!
I posted this on Reddit as well, it's not a copypasta: http://www.reddit.com/r/applehelp/comments/tz6ts/hard_drive_space_suddenly_disappeared_after_using/

Okay, so here's the story:

Before this, I had ~50 GB free. I was using World Painter to make a Minecraft map. It started freezing and crashing and suddenly loads of space on my drive started to go missing, down to ~200 MB.

I force quit it and slowly, the space started coming back up. At ~8 GB, I then decided to log out to try to make it go all in one go. That didn't work, but it still kept creeping back up.

When it hit ~12 GB, I decided to try restarting to see if that would make all the space come back. I was guessing all the space had gone to swap. I restarted, but when I logged back in, the space was still only ~12 GB, and worse, it wasn't coming back up.

I've used DaisyDisk and GrandPerspective to try to locate this(/these) massive file(s). I found nothing. I searched around on Google and got this. So, I followed his advice to boot up in safe mode, then restart. Now, I'm at 12.33 GB, a rise up from 12.16, but still nowhere near the amount of space I had before.

I even tried repairing permissions and disk using Disk Utility. Still nothing. Finally, I tried running the "periodic daily weekly monthly" command. No dice.

I need to know what's causing this. Is this a known issue? I desperately want my space back. How can 38 GB of space just disappear like that? And how come I can't find whatever's taking up the space on DaisyDisk/GrandPerspective?
