I currently have a mid-2010 Macbook 13''. One of my friends just got a new Macbook so he has no use for his 2012. I just put in an ssd in my mac, are the dimensions similar enough that I could put the hard drive from my mac into his even though its a different model?

Thanks

Both the mid-2010 Macbook, and the mid-2012 MBPro use the same type laptop SATA drive, so that will work for you very easily - just swap the drives.
You would need to have an OS X system installed on that drive that will also boot the newer MBPro, but that's an easy fix.

If the 2012 is a retina model (the Late-2012 rMBPro), then no, won't work at all to swap devices. The Retina models use flash storage, which is a circuit board design, and there's no space inside the retina models for a normal dimension 2.5-inch drive.
