I need this 250GB drive because I'm running out of space, when I plugged it in I get this error:
ae36758a-7a74-acab.jpg

So I tried repairing it:
ae36758a-7a88-b604.jpg

Then tried erasing it:
ae36758a-7aae-e7d5.jpg

And it stops right there while erasing. Then I get this message:
ae36758a-7ad5-be46.jpg

I'm baffled by this. The drive was kept in its box for around 2 months on a shelf. I didn't have any important data on here, but I need to put this in my optibay before I'm 100% out of storage

Ok, first up, try a different USB port and a different cable/connector to the External HDD.
Then try formatting it with a different machine (a PC (shudder :p) will do)

If that fails, listen closely to the drive. Does it click?
If it does, this could be the fault. Grab the disk (in or out of the enclosure) and swing it down from over your head into your other palm. Not to hard though.
Then retry about 3 times.
Otherwise, flick the hard drive as it is being formatted, this can solve these problems as there can be low levels of corruption on the disk.
Otherwise, return to the vendor for a refund.

In other cases, try a different program. For instance fix the disk using Oynx.

Will do.

Already listened, no clicking. Just the normal quiet spinning motor sound.

I will try unsticking the heads if it fails on the PC.

I will flick it too.

I can't return it as its over 6 months old, and I don't have my receipt. (Plus its honestly not worth the hassle in my opinion)

I'll try Ubuntu if windows fails me (as it usually does  )

Thanks!

Update: windows failed (no surprise) Ubuntu failed (what?!) And so did OS X again. 250gb is a lot (to me at least) to just loose like this

Tried two different sata cables, flicked the drive, tried both USB ports on my Mac, both on my Ubuntu laptop, and 4 on my windows desktop.
