Hard Drive wont auto-off after shutdown

I have a brand new 21.5" iMac with a 500GB Lacie Quadra d2 attached via Firewire 800. The Lacie is partitioned into a 200GB Time Machine backup and a 300GB partition. I have the switch on the back of my Lacie to "auto" so it should turn on and off with the computer. However, when I turn my computer off, the External Hard drive won't turn off by itself. I have to manually turn it off every time I shutdown the computer. Anyone got a similar problem?
