I have 4 external drives connected to my iMac. However one of them doesn't seem to go to sleep. If anyone has any suggestions on what might be going on, I'd appreciate the help.
The setup/pertinent info.
OS: 10.6.4
iMac: 2007 rev. A aluminum 2.8GHz Extreme 4GB RAM 750GB HDD
Drive 1: 2TB OWC case n Hitachi drive with all iTunes via FW800
Drive 2: 2TB OWC case n Hitachi drive using CCC to clone iTunes drive via FW400
Drive 3: 750GB Seagate in Cool Drives 'Metallica' 2 drive case (Oxford 924 chipset) for Time Machine of all iMac drive data incl. System, iPhoto library, docs, Apps, etc. - Daisy chained FW800 off iTunes drive (Drive 1).
Drive 4: 750GB Seagate in other slot of Cool Drives case (JBOD jumpering) for use of old data from old machines etc, not backed up or used to back up.
Obviously I have the put hard disks to sleep when possible checked in the energy saver preferences. And with all 4 drives mounted, when the system goes to sleep, Drives 1, 2, & 4 all go to sleep and more importantly stay cool. However, Drive 3 - the Time Machine drive stays lit with activity and stays hotter than it should if it was truly sleeping. And though it is the TM drive, i currently have TM off and have been running backups manually the last few days, and that isn't making a difference, so I'm not sure why it doesn't sleep. I can't assume it is because of the daisy chain from the iTunes drive, because the other drive in that case stays asleep when not accessed and they have two activity lights, one for each drive and only the TM drive light is flickering. Now it may be that the primary drive in that case will always stay lit, as even my OWC drive cases stay lit but dim when sleeping, but it should still cool down.
Any feedback would be awesome. Thanks.
