hello friends,

i got my new ibook g4 933 four days ago. i love it and its very nice.

everything works fine but two days ago i recognized this little noise - this little buffering or something like that - every 15 to 30 seconds. the harddisk makes "crupp...smmm..." or so.

i m a bit confused. i m sure it didnt make those sounds the days before.

so my question is: does anyone else hear the hard disk while you do nothing and no programs are open too?

read ya,

Unless your computer is turned off or in sleep mode, it's always doing something. Occasionally (or even often), that something will involve reading from or writing to the hard drive. You may not be running any programs but there are tens (probably more like dozens) of programs running that are part of the operating system.

Swapping to disk

You need more RAM, most likely. As soon as you run out of physical RAM, swapping takes place. This could totally be happening while threads are running, even if you are not directly interacting with the machine at any given moment.

Max the puppy, 640MB (1GB sticks are stupid-expensive).
