Does the AppleCare warranty allow me to replace the MBP harddisk on my own or has this to be done by a certified Apple support center?

Thanks!
Jochen

Depends on what model. The new MBP, yes, you can DIY. The older models, it will void the warranty.

It won't void the warranty of any Macbook Pro. It's just much harder to accomplish the task in older models.

Actually, it does. I spent hours on the phone with Apple about this. It voids both the manufacturer's warranty and AppleCare if you replace the hard drive on older MBP models.

The new MBPs released yesterday have user-upgradeable hard drives.

Older ones do not and you will void your warranty if you do it yourself.

Of course if you do it well enough and don't break anything, nobody can be the wiser :)

part of that plan is to keep the original drive around.

My mbp is out of warranty, 120gb isn't cutting it much anymore, especially now that I dual boot. I might wait until 500gb drives drop more. Too bad it's not as easy as the new models to replace the hd.
