It appears that Apple splits up SDK capabilities between "Software" and "Hardware" developers. This is confusing, so I have a question.
I want to do serial communication with an iPhone via the cable. I am told that this ability is special to Hardware Developers. My question is, how is that enforced? Does Apple have hooks into the IDE that they can enable/disable the serial comm libraries? Or is it as simple as Apple checking all incoming apps for code restricted to a developer type, and rejecting the app if it's not allowed?
Basically, I have a bunch of pet projects, and have no intention of selling software or using the app store. Is there a way to get access to these serial comm libraries for personal use by just becoming an iPhone Software Developer with the $99 fee?
Thanks for any help sorting this out.
