I have a 13-inch early 2014 MacBook Air and want to hook up two external monitors that have HDMI connections.

Any recommendations for hardware that I can use to hook-up my two external monitors is appreciated.

Not so sure you can accomplish that task with what you have. Check my sig. My setup is in there. I have the OWC TB2 dock and run 1 monitor off that on HDMI. I'd have to research that again, but I don't think I can run another monitor off the other TB2 port on the dock at the same time. I don't have another monitor at home so maybe I'll take everything to work and validate that. There are limitations with any hardware. I believe, IF you had 2 actual Apple Thunderbolt 2 monitors, you may be able to accomplish that. I'm no expert for sure, but do some research. There are other threads on this site about this issue. Here is one. Trouble W/ multiple monitors OWC Thunderbolt 2 dock ...
There may be other docks out there that might do it, but I doubt it. I did a lot of research back before I bought this dock used. They are VERY hard to find. They are not made anymore and are not sold new. I drove 2.5 hours 1 way to get this one.

Using DisplayLink will not allow HDCP content to be played.. Meaning no iTunes movies etc..
Then the Matrox box might be worth looking into. It presents itself as a monitor, so HDCP should work as intended.

I see that.. Very interesting.. We use Matrox software on some old pc's at work.. Didn't know they made hardware.. Might want to check that. Documented support only up to Sierra on Matrox site..

That might just refer to the software that comes with the box. You don't really need that. The box needs no drivers, it tries to auto-configure itself based on the EDID of the monitors connected to it and presents a single ultrawide monitor to the system. When I used it with two 1920x1200 LCDs the Mac thought it had a single 3840x1200 LCD... That's the whole point. :)

Well, I'll have to take my TB2 dock to work to validate if I can run 2 monitors off it. Would be nice to know. Wife wouldn't be happy with me if I did setup another monitor in here.. not too much room. Would be nice to know if the Matrox would work nice if this ever dies. I did get a different dock previously that used the DisplayLink software. That's how I discovered it wouldn't do HDCP content. Very disappointing. That was during covid lockdown and I was trying to work from home at that point and use both my work laptop and my Mac after.. Now I have 2 docks. 1 for HP work laptop and the TB2 for Mac. If anyone has that Matrox box let us all know. Thanks.
