Has anyone been able to "reserve and pick up an iPad"?

...because I've been checking everyday, and, at nine today, the site took about 3mins to load, and by that time they were all gone (if there was any to reserve in the first place!).

Check your local target store. They usually have them in stock like mine. That is the last place that people look. However, you will have a hard time finding one if you want a specific models. If you want a specific model like me, then your best bet is to order from online or line up at apple store early.

Judging by the fact that he has been trying to reserve one on Apple's site for store pick up the following day suggests that he lives in the UK. Therefore recommending Target stores wouldn't be any point.

Not necessarily. You can also reserve iPads in the U.S. Here is the link.
