I wonder why it's been sitting there so long. Anyone else?

Yep, there are a lot of us parked in KY. Apple has a hold in place, so nothing is moving and probably won't until tomorrow.
Apple has a hold, but a lot of verizon customers are already receiving theirs :(

I didn't ask when I was getting it, maybe you should re-read the thread? I asked why it's been stuck in Louisville so long and if the same is happening to anyone else.

Agree. I think it's a bit worrisome when we don't see the progress. That's it. I don't mind if they wanna hold the package till the launch day, but can it be held at a UPS location near my place? :p

But when your getting it was the answer!

It's stuck there because your not getting it until the 14th....

Still doesn't answer my question why it's not held at some other places near the destination?

Because that is the main hub for UPS. They have a huge complex and plenty of room to store stuff there for product launches such as this.

I used to work for UPS in Columbus, OH as a Supervisor after I joined the Army back in 2007.

Louisville was one of our regional hubs.

My iPhone is stuck there as well. Cool thing is, since my roomate still works there as a truck driver/loader, I'll just have him snatch mine up before we go to Indiana with the Army for the weekend :D

Also moving stuff from there to the final destination can be done very quickly. In addition local UPS depots do not have adequate secure storage for the amount of product they would need to store (first hand knowledge of that). The local depots are meant to sort and deliver, not hold product.

Most likely we'll see movement tomorrow to local hubs and they'll be out for delivery on Friday.

I'm stuck in the exact same spot as you.

I live in Indianapolis, IN so I guess it's possible for an early delivery. But I doubt it.

Apparently UPS World Port is in Louisville, KY, and it sorts nearly 400,000 items an hour.

It's quite fascinating if you're interested.

mine is on it's way to KY right now according to iship, but I found my tracking by ref. last night and apple.com still shows 'preparing for shipment'

anyways I think it is a lot like going to war with a big country in Civ, you move all your troops to a common choke point near the country you want to go to war with, then when you've built up forces you release them all to rape and pillage the land.

he answered your question perfectly. it's being "held" in louisville because it doesn't need to be delivered until friday. did you expect them to come sit on your front lawn with it until friday morning?

They are sitting in Louisville because Apple most likely shipped them out a day early just so they have a buffer in case there was extreme weather that kept the planes from flying.

Smart move. Would you have prefered Apple ship them out on the exact day to arrive on Friday, but then bad weather comes and you don't get your iphone on Friday because a plane got grounded?

He was trying to be a wise-ass.
