I've purchased SSDs from Amazon, I try to make sure they're not some podunk, no name reseller, but actually amazon and if the deal is too good to be true, then it is, and I move on
100% this ^
I've purchase plenty of NVMe's from Amazon - although Amazon direct, not from any third party seller - ranging from 1TB to 8TB.
Most of the time I have been completely fine.
I say 'most' because on one occasion, with a Samsung 990 Pro 4TB drive, the box came empty! The seals were intact but upon closing inspection I could see someone had carefully lifted the corner of the seal sticker and opened it - I knew before I even opened the package. Sure enough - nothing inside.
Luckily this was for work, and ordered through their business account, and upon contacting Amazon they were quick to replace.
WD drives come with a clear window on the back of the box, so you can actually see the drive and its serial etc inside - much better IMO.
Anyways, most of the time I've been completely fine. I'd say it's safe
Good luck with the prices though!
My WD SN850x 8TB drives that I purchased for just over £400 last year, and now over £1000!
Even 1TB 990 Pro drives that I purchased for £75 are now around £180!
Fortunately I don't need to be ordering any more for a while!
the -only- reason for me is fast shipping to secured Amazon lockers. Not any more. Too many cameras/lenses/hdd's shipped loose in boxes. Toss in an obviously returned defective lens, some counterfeit Hoya filters & SanDisk cards and I stopped buying high dollar items at Amazon long ago. Why bother with Amazon when I can get the same item, for the same price from B&H.
I buy cameras and lenses from either the manufacturer or from B&H, but I have also ordered expensive lenses from Amazon and haven't had any troubles with packaging and so on. The camera and lens manufacturers do charge for shipping and handling, just like B&H does when shipping to Alaska. It cost me around $79.00 to have a 5k BenQ computer monitor deliver from B&H to my home in Alaska, and while I didn't mind the extra cost, it would have been more economical to buy the monitor from Amazon. Not any more.
