now that Apple doesn't do anything but next plans, I need a new trade in system. I would like to order the 6S as soon as it's ready, but I'd also like to trade in my 5S for it.

So, if I do a pre order online, can I still take my phone in to an AT&T store and use that money toward my subsidized iPhone? (2 year contract?)

If you pre-order online, they want a credit card to charge when it ships. Your best bet is to request a buy back box at https://buyback.att.com and they'll ship you a box and send you a Visa card for the value they quote you online.

The only way you'll be able to do an immediate trade in is if you pre-order in a company owned retail store and trade your phone in THAT day, but you'll be without a phone until yours ships since they are required to collect your device on the spot.

Best bet is to lay out the money, pre-order, and trade in for a Visa after the fact.
