I'm looking at the just-refreshed early 2015 13" Retina Macbook Pro. Of note, it has two thunderbolt outputs and an HDMI output.

I'd like to know definitively if it can drive three external displays (extending the desktop, not mirrored) while running in clamshell mode, or perhaps even four displays total including the built-in display. I can't seem to find this information anywhere in a data sheet or review.

My limited understanding is that it can drive two displays through the thunderbolt outputs, and that perhaps if you daisy-chain an existing thunderbolt monitor to another one, my idea just might work. However, I have HDMI monitors.

EDIT: I don't care about 4K, I just want HD resolution on multiple monitors and lots of screen real estate. It's not for gaming either. I work in a setting where I need to have a lot of windows open simultaneously to monitor things while I work on other stuff, etc.

I have no personal experience, but these older sources point to the fact that it will be able to do at least three external displays (probably including its own):

Also, since Apple's technical specifications lists support for "full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 3840 by 2160 pixels on up to two external displays", it's a good bet it'll do at least three external monitors at lower resolutions.
