I randomly got mushy sticky keys and they said that it definitely qualified for the keyboard replacement program when they inspected it. I also have a 2017 13" MacBook Pro and have heard of issues with those keyboards but not so much with the 12" MacBook. Has anyone else had to replace theirs?

Just did. Feels slightly different. Slightly better. They keys feel like the plastic is different in a good way. Can’t put my finger on what may have changed but something feels slightly different.

@Jacoblee23 @FilmIndustryGuy did they replace only the top case and keyboard on your MacBooks? I'm asking because a friend of mine recently sent his in for 'sticky keys' and got it back with a brand new battery.

They said they thought that I would but according to coconut battery it looks the same. Also, mine was done at an authorized Apple tech place recommended by Apple If that makes a difference I don’t know. They did a great job but I don’t think I got a new battery.

I was thinking the same thing.

No. the battery is goes to the bottom lid i think. They replaced the top case so all the dings and scratches are gone. My screen was a bit wobbly and to fix that they have to install a whole new panel piece so also got a new screen. no more dings and scratched on whole machine except the bottom portion that comes off when unscrewed but that piece will get a replacement too eventually with battery swap. Got to love apple care

Oh okay. They didn’t give me a new screen but they said they tightened it up. That’s awesome!

I also got my 2017 keyboard replaced and yes, it feels different. Better. Maybe it's the 'newness'? But it feels springier and more accurate. Fiancee had her 2016 keyboard replaced and it does not, so...

I got it back today. Feels much better.

You had a 2017 MacBook and your keyboard was replaced with a 2017 MacBook keyboard right? How does that make a difference? Is it really a different keayboard? The 2018 MacBook Pro do have a different one but they don't fit in the MacBooks don't they?

I have a 2017 MacBook and a 2017 pro. Coincidentally, I had to get keyboards replaced on them both around the same time.

What are the wait times for keyboard replacements like? my wife is having issues with her command key getting stuck on her 2017 Macbook, however she depends on her computer for work so cannot be without it for more than 1 day.

I had the keyboard on my 2015 replaced a couple of weeks ago. They provide a box with overnight shipping. It arrived the day after I shipped it and they repaired it and shipped it out to me the day after they received it. It was delivered back to me the day after - so 4 days door to door - obviously more if this spans a weekend or holiday.

There was a rumor, reported by Daringfireball, that they started using a more resilient metal aloy for the scissor mechanism in the second half of 2017.

Did the same. Was easy, and would do it again (though hopefully I won't need to).

[doublepost=1533092528][/doublepost]2017 rMB. Live in SF Bay Area...commute to Japan for three weeks every other month. Got to Japan three weeks ago and left shift key would only partially work. Went to the Shinjuku store and they changed key cap and put in a "new Japan only butterfly" mechanism on the key....Didn't work at all....Came back to Bay Area....brought it in last Tuesday at 3....Friday at 10 it came back to my house with a new keyboard/top case. Fine for now....Quick service level for a replacement and I have no idea which keyboard they replaced it with. I wonder if the keyboard code under About this Mac/System Report/SPI tells us anything:

Product ID: 0x0279

Vendor ID: 0x05ac (Apple Inc.)

ST Version: 8.92

MT Version: 4.12

Serial Number: D3H82170FGSHF9PAW+1CF

Manufacturer: Apple Inc.

Location ID: 0x01000000

I suspect there are a lot of silent majority who arent turning theirs in for service. my roommate for one.

For those of you who who got replacements, were you previously using any sort of keyboard cover or protector? Seems like using those covers would alleviate the problem to a great degree.

I have a 2016 rMB and I've had keyboard issues in the past. I pressed they keys hard in the past to break or dislodge the debris in the keyboard. If my keyboard isn't CURRENTLY malfunctioning, is it still eligible for replacement? Has anyone had their keyboard replaced if it wasn't currently malfunctioning?

I have a 2016 Macbook Pro TB, and ive been experiencing the sticky / weird sounding keys now for a long time. Its not always present though but comes and goes. On top of that, the paint is coming of the keys (as you can see in the picture) which I find lame.

Do you think I would be eligible for a keyboard replacement?

Another experience - replaced my keyboard since the computer wasn't always sitting flat. They replaced both bottom and top case, and (in my mind) the keyboard is noticeably worse. So... not sure what's going on, but I do think there are several replacement keyboards going around.

Will be tomorrow morning, just picked it up tonight.
Never noticed it in the Apple store or any other store when I tried the display models attached to mains power. It’s day 14 of return period and otherwise am happy with MacBook 12
