Hey all,

I was surfing the web last night on my new aluminium macbook, which is only about 48 hours old and then it started making some weird ass noises, sounded like the hard drive was really struggling and that it was going to die.

It was pretty subtle at first but it was getting louder and louder and then it just stopped, I was a little worried only because this is a brand new machine and it sounded as though the hard drive was going to write itself to death.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

it is probably just the hard disk spinning. The sound is quite distracting if you are not familiar with the sound. Should be fine.

everyone's laptop is dying...slowly

Could have been file indexing. That will definitely tax the hard drive somewhat and may also kick the fan's rpm up to provide more cooling. Indexing should stop after a bit. If it continues to make loud noises, return it to your local Apple store.

Regards.
