Yes, that rendering has been posted on this forum many moons ago. Its silly and not practical..We get a lot of renderings on this forum. They are just that and not something that will come out

Yeah, I don't get what would be the point of a side screen, other than to show that they could do it.

I don't know how I feel about this.

I do. I'm a human being, not a spider with four pairs of eyes. So, icons that are effectively hidden for me most of the time would serve no useful purpose.

It's a funny pic, though. I imagine that the 'monolith' from 2001 A Space Odyssey could display something like that if it felt so inclined.

Ok apologies I joined the forums not too long ago and hadn't seen this picture before.

Looks similar to this actual Samsung prototype:

Samsung says they'll be producing a phone like this soon.

I think the idea is to be able to display side notifications when you have a closed book-like case, although I have no idea why you'd be looking at the side. Unless perhaps you set it that way on a table at a meeting so only you can see what's going on.

Now, a display on the TOP of a shirt pocket held phone, that could be useful, as you could just glance down at your pocket to see who's calling.

Edit: Okay, well let's say you were using the entire front to watch a movie, but still wanted to be able to see controls and/or notifications. Then, yeah, a side display could be handy.

I think side screens are a brilliant idea. I lay my phone down on the bedside table and need to lift it up to check it. If I could just look over at the table and see the side screen and check it that would be sweet. Of course it perpetuates my idea of the lazy American but I never said I wasn't a hypocrite. This includes any time it's laying on a table.... of course you would have to pay attention how you lay it down but that's not a problem, I'm a bit anal.
