when im copying files from one firewire drive to another on my powerbook 667 (panther 10.3.1), sometimes the copy window stalls, and get stuck on a file (different file everytiime). hitting stop doesnt do anything. the only way to get it to go away is to force restart.

has anyone seen this?

Never seen this before, but next time it gets stuck, try typing this into a terminal:

osascript -e 'tell application "Finder" to quit'

That should cleanly close Finder, if it works then the Finder has not fully crashed solid, and there may be some hope left :)

i had something like that happen on my PB under Panther. i'd move a file from one partition to another, then as soon as it would start to copy, it'd just quit Finder.

my files would all move okay, and they weren't corrupted or anything.

are you files corrupted after copying them? do they even copy sucessfully?

I've had that happen...

I think that happens for some reason if your drive is FAT32.

When that happened to my friend I backuped all his stuff them made the drive Mac OS Extended. All the files went fine after that.
