I used to have an M2 Pro Mac Mini, but I upgraded to the M4 base model Mac Mini when it came out last year. I sold the M2 Pro Mac Mini, has anyone else done this? And if so, how was your experience, what is different / better?

Done similar from M1 MBA to M3. I can see the performance is greatly boosted. In the past, it could take 30 minutes to split a 5GB file on M1. Now, it only takes about 10 mins on M3.

I'm curious, what do you use it for?

My base M2 MacBook Air can still handle everything I throw at it just fine. I can’t really imagine how much better the base M4 chip is compared to the M2 Pro. (I only have my M2 MBA and an M4 iPad Pro to compare)

I wouldn't consider going from M2 Pro to M4 Base unless other factors necessitated an upgrade (i.e. RAM for the most part; storage can be added externally).

I did upgrade my M1 mini to M4 Pro mini... even THAT wasn't entirely "necessary" as the M1 was doing fine but my brother-in-law needed a new computer, so he got my M1 and I upgraded.

upgraded from a corei9 16in mbp to the m4 mini

Faster? yes
Noticeable in the majority of daily tasks? not really

I would imagine a m2 to m4 would be even less underwhelming
