I tried to get my HomePod mini to play BBC radio 3, and it either plays Beethoven on Apple Music, (right genre I guess...) or some random Christmas crap, or LBC (London Talk radio usually filled with right wing bigots). My Google nest plays BBC Radio 3 no issues with same request (other than hey google not hey Siri.

Other than setting a timer has anyone else managed to get it to play a radio station of their choosing, and not Siri's?

Tried again in my pro max and got a punk band’s session on bbc radio 1 lol.

Ok looks like Siri can't handle BBC radio, yet Google assistant/Gemini can. It recognises play classic fm, and attempts to and fails. 2 nil to google here. It says there's a problem with Apple Music, despite not asking for Apple Music. If it wasn't a hub for the automation to turn the outside light on when myself or my partner get home it would be out the window already lol. I just wish you could use Apple Music reliably on the google home (i.e. chrome cast it via iOS).

Can I use BBC Sounds with my Apple Siri device?

BBC Sounds is not currently available via voice commands on Apple HomePod or Apple TV.
However, if you have the BBC Sounds app on an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch, you can use the AirPlay feature to stream BBC Sounds to your Apple HomePod or Apple TV. This feature is not supported from an Android device.
Check the Apple Support website for advice on how to use AirPlay: How to AirPlay audio
BBC Sounds listeners on iOS mobile devices running iOS version 12.2 or higher can use Siri shortcuts to access BBC Sounds. You can create custom shortcuts to launch live radio via the Siri Shortcuts app.
More information on Siri Shortcuts can be found on the Apple Support website: Siri Shortcuts

Yes I just tried it on my HomePods/iPads and it did indeed play Beethoven. It worked straight away on my Alexa.

I have nine HomePods, and around six years ago they worked moderately well. But since then, that so-called chief engineer at Apple has effed things’ up. I still ask her questions, but it only provides continuity less than half the time. I now rely on my three Google/Nest Home Hubs to ask questions, set timers, and so forth. 🫩

Setting timers and playing music seems to work pretty well for me, both on my Homepod minis and with CarPlay. Making calls with CarPlay seems to be reliable for me as well.

I don't ask questions or anything, though.

When my smart home was Apple HomeKit, I would only have Siri turn the lights on and off.
