I will start off to say I am pretty proficient with OS X and Windows. I have Windows 8.1 Pro x64 with Start8 and configured the way I need it. It is running exceptionally well with dual Apple LED Cinema Displays and 128GB of RAM. I have a 6TB RAID partition in Windows and an Apple 512GB SSD as the primary drive. Currently, Windows is occupying the entire system and I would like to install OS X onto the SSD in its own partition. I shrank the Windows partition and left plenty of room on the SSD for OS X, but it will not install there (perhaps because it doesn't like something besides OS X being the first OS). All drives are GPT formatted with no hybrid MBRs.

I am thinking if I use gparted and forklift the Windows 8.1 installation to the end of the drive and creating a new empty partition at the beginning of the SSD that OS X would probably install.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I hate to move all of that data and "wear" the SSD if I would hit a brick wall, but the only way to find out for sure may be to try it.

Thanks!
