The early and mid 2015 macbook pros came out like a month or two apart and both touted major SSD speed boosts, but the 13" MBP was advertised with speeds up to 1.6GB/s while the 15" MBP was advertised up to 2GB/s. My question, is the SSD the same but the 15" MBP is able to get higher read/write speeds or are they actually two different SSDs?

From what I've understood they Apple has used the same SSDs in both the 15" and 13" machines ever since they switched to using SSDs. Like other manufacturers, Apple's larger capacity drives tend to be faster than their lower capacity ones. The difference between the 13" and 15" is really just that the 13" model comes with a 128 GB drive as standard while the 15" model comes with a 256 GB drive as standard.
