I have a pair of nice Shure se530's and the actual cord on them is only about 1.5 feet. From that, I connect to a 3 ft 3.5mm cord and then to my iphone adapter... It just doesn't seem too efficient!

Is there a place I can buy a 2-3 ft 3.5mm cord that will fit the iphone jack?

I use the Belkin cord. Apple sells it online. I bought mine from buy.com. It is about 3 feet or more I think.

this doesnt make sense...

doesnt the iphone have a 3.5mm plug for headfones??
Yes. But it's slightly recessed into the housing, meaning that you can't just plug in any old 3.5mm cable - you need one designed specifically for the iPhone (or use the special adapter that allows you to plug in any garden-variety 3.5mm cable).

I got mine off eBAY from Hong Kong, 2 pieces for £5.

Do a search there for:

2Pcs x WH 3.5mm Earphone Headphone Adapter for iPhone

Cheers
