In searching through the threads I find people who have successfully downgraded to 2.2.1 but its not clear weather they are able to downgrade the baseband too. Is it possible to go back to 2.2.1 100% ?

Short answer is no as the previous poster stated. The longer answer is that you can reload the OS to level 2.2.1 but you can not revert to Baseband 2.30.03. This is what would prevent you from using Yellowsn0w to software unlock your iPhone.

Thats what I figured. I know people mixed 2.2.1 software with 3.0 FW but I have heard mixed results.
