I live in the Netherlands and I want to get a new Apple Watch Series 6 and I was considering asking a friend from Spain to buy me one and post it to me mainly because I want the sapphire glass screen.

No carrier currently supports the Series 6 here and I don't really care if it will take them another year to do so but it would be neat to get one that will work someday. From what I see on Apple's website there's only one two cellular model versions per type of watch, one for North America and one for Europe, Asia Pacific, and China mainland.

From this information I can deduct that you could totally do this, is there something else? Are they locked by carriers or do they have special settings that would prevent this in the future?

From what I gather, it might be impossible to activate it later. It was the case for me with my stainless steel S3, I got it in Germany, because at that time there was no option of LTE in Poland and I wanted the sapphire glass. Since then, it has been added, but my S3 wasn't compatible.

damn, I'm sorry to hear that. It's so unfortunate that apple made this entire process so complicated.
