I have the M1 studio max and after much digging and help from other posters, I discovered that the max speed of the front ports are limited to 8Gbps despite Apple's advertisement of "up to !0Gbps". It is impossible to reach 10Gbps because it only uses 1 PCIe 3 lanes, each 8GT/sec and with PCIE 3.0 uses 128B/130B encoding so the max thruput is 7.9Gbps.

So am curious if the M4 mac mini being PCIe 4, can go up to 10Gbps since PCIe4 is double the speed of PCIe3

Please - responses only from those owners of M4 Mac minis that have tested the front ports.
Thanks!

I took an NVMe drive in a 40 Gbps enclosure, that was hitting 2800 MBs r/w connected to a rear TB4 port, and connected it to a front USB-C port.

It maxed out at 984 MBs, which I believe is around 7.8 Gbps

Standard M4 non-pro mini
