Just curious if anyone else has “upgraded” their MacBook Air? I swapped the 1.86GHz/2GB RAM logic board in my 13” late 2010 model with a 2.13GHz/4GB RAM logic board as the 2GB RAM slowed it way down. Took about 90 minutes from beginning to end and the logic board only cost about $55 on eBay.

I've replaced the thermal paste and battery in an 11". RAM was already 4GB.

What you did was a terrific idea though. I had no idea the logic boards were that cheap.

I was thinking of doing a logic board swap on my Mid 2012. It only has 4Gb ram and while it runs fine the way it is, I enjoy a project. I wonder if a 2017 logic board is compatible..

I have performed a logic board swap to my 2015 13 inch i5/4GB AIR to an i7 8GB logic board and had no issues. I sold this AIR today to a friend of mine since I have not been using it after acquiring my 2015 11 inch i7 8GB AIR. I know my friend will enjoy his "new to him" AIR since it also has upgraded storage (Samsung 950PRO 512GB NVMe M.2).

The swap was easy to do with the right tools. Just take a look at ifixit for their repair guides and list of tools.

I upgraded the motherboard in my 2013 11 inch MacBook Air. Went from 2013 board to a 2015 with 8gb ram.
Pretty easy overall - mostly plug and play, and now I have 4K external display over thunderbolt 2, and the ability to use an nvme ssd with no hibernation issues. I also get about two extra hours on the same battery.

Bought on ebay a cheap 13", 2013, Air, i7, 8GB with some cosmetic faults but with a new battery. Swapped this logic board and battery into our 2014 Air, i5, 4GB case in very good condition and vice versa. Everything works fine.

Curious what you paid for that - seems to be in the low 200s...

Glad to read I wasn’t the only one crazy enough to go this route. :)
