Hi guys,
I'm considering buying a 13'' i5 MBP.
I will use it mainly for surfing the net, watch some movies, and only occasionally (maybe on some weekends) photo editing, video editing.
I talked to the online live chat guy and he suggested i go for the i7 one. But i really dont think the i7 would make a huge difference that is worth $200?
what do you guys think? Has anyone used the 13'' i5 MBP for video editing?

P.S. I will use the raw HD footage from my DSLR for video editing, maybe that's why the live chat guy suggested me to go for the i7?

and how does the new i5 compare to the 2010 core-duo?

Need your advice!

I use a c2d 2.4ghz macbook pro 15'' and its' fine. rendering takes awhile but oh well. You will NOT be able to use raw HD footage from your DSLR in FCP, well you can, but you really need to convert it to have it be usable at all. This can be automated with the EOS utility for FCP

And the magic word is..... Search ;)

I believe the i5 will do the job for you. Later adding more ram and an ssd will boost the performance.

oh really?? that means i dont need to find another software to convert the video? that's great!
I was thinking of using the SD slot on the machine to import the photos and videos without installing the EOS utility. But now given your comments I will surely install the utility!
BTW, have you tried converting a raw footage? How long does it take?

I shoot all my footage with a t2i and do all my editing in FCP.

MPEG Streamclip is my BEST friend. It's free and works great! How long does it take? That's depends on how much you shoot. But my machine (see signature) does a pretty good job of transcoding it.

You can download it HERE
