Has anyone used data cards to connect Pb to internet? in UK

Has anyone used the Data Cards i.e.Orange Options card,Sony Ericsson modem card or Nokia D211 or CardPhone 2 in thier P/B for wireless connection to the internet while travelling,or is using your mobile as a modem the only way to go and what are the speeds compared to "oranges" High Speed Data?
