recently decided to update from Monterey to Sequoia for future security update reasons.
my main work is Pro Tools 2024.10.#
My right hand is QuickSilver launcher.

I wiped the drive and installed Seq from internet recovery to 15.6.1 and 90% of my apps and docs.
All was going well for about 10 days, then QS started misbehaving and becoming unreliable.
I uninstalled QS, ran DFA, rebooted and reinstalled. Went a couple of days and started misbehaving again.
I know that both Seq & QS are stable as I have them installed on my unsupported 2013 MBA via OCLP.
But that laptop doesn't have PT on it or much else. It is strictly a travel device.

Got is touch with the QS devs who have been very helpful reading thru this. But, I'm fairly certain QS isn't the issue.

A few days ago, after the 4th run of nuke & pave to Seq, a SEP kernel panic log came up.
Well out of my wheelhouse.
Someone here suggested Howard Oakley site for some research. He has also been very helpful.

I ended up at the local Apple Store the other day and the genii there did a DFU restore.
Ran Diagnosis, report came back no issues.
Started installing my gak, but no PT and related, mostly just run of the mill apps and QS.
Maybe 50% of things installed and same issue with QS came up, but no SEP kernel panic, just QS crash reports.
QS is functioning, mostly, but I can't get at custom Triggers to edit, that's when the crash occurs. Some of those are not working.
There are other little things that are occurring that may or may not be related. TrackPad slow to wake, apps giving false crash....

The '18 mini is a "vintage" machine, or as Apple say, sorry mate. Even if, it would cost more than $500 to repair.
Not looking to discuss give up and buy new that would scream past my '18 for a number of reasons. $$$ for one.
But is it worth going back to Monterey, or is it likely there might be an undiagnosed hardware issue and the same thing will occur?
Or try to figure out if this is a software issue or not?

in any case., thanks for reading.

My advice (you probably won't like it):

What is this thing called Quicksilver launcher?
Is it ONLY something you use to find and start applications?
And... nothing more than that?
(or, does it do something else?)

If so, then my advice is:
DISABLE and remove it.

Does the Mini now run properly?
Pro Tools and all...?

If that's the case, learn to live without Quicksilver on the Mac.
Find something else to use for an app launcher.

I've found the best "launcher" of all is to put icons of the applications folder AND the utilities folder into the dock.
Right click on the icons and choose to set them as "a folder" and "a list".
Instant access to... everything.

What you could try still (if it boots to recovery/USB installer still) is install on an external SSD.

Maybe I'm being overly cautious but I've been running my Mac mini '18 from an external from the start, always suspecting the internal SSD to be the "weakest link".

you right, didn't like it, but noted. may have to do that.
