Has it helped make things more reliable or responsive, or noticeably helped in any way? Just curious.

Still get random devices going "no response" and I have to reset them to get HomeKit to re-establish contact, but it at least seems like it's happening less.

I used to think this was a home wifi issue but when troubleshooting, I could still ping the "non-responding" devices w/o issue, so it's likely a back-end/cloud issue that still needs cleaning up on Apple's side.

Bottom line, too early to tell. Certainly no clear improvements yet, nor any huge problems yet either.

Since updating I get "no response" at least once a week and have to delete and setup devices to get it to work again. I'm not impressed with the "improved architecture" and am just waiting for the promised "fix" to correct performance. Until then I've shut it off and don't use it

Wait for the “fix.” It was pulled for a reason and I don’t think that reason was because HomeKit vastly improved on the new architecture. It’s crap and Apple knows it.

Ah I thought it had been reintroduced already. No wonder. Ok, let’s hope for the best.

The rumors were that 16.3 was going to reintroduce it but that wasn’t the case. There is strong evidence of a 16.3.1 coming soon but no clue if that will have the fixed architecture. Hopefully since there’s no sign of a 16.4 beta in sight, which should’ve been released shortly after 16.3.

Yes, it has improved response time incrementally but noticeably, for me. Button presses via Home app are truly instant for every single accessory, and now voice commands via HomePods are only a few seconds (maybe 2-4 seconds if I had to guess...and they are instant when using an iPhone for commands).

The key is to have a strong network. I have Unifi networking equipment with 3 hardwired APs throughout my home. Dedicated SSIDs - a 2.4ghz only with WPA 2 for legacy devices, and then a 2.4/5ghz mixed with WPA 2/3 mixed for the more capable devices. Tune the power of the APs, set your channels, don't be greedy on the channel widths.

If you do all of this, your HomeKit system will work flawlessly. I have 120+ devices with 60+ automations that range the spectrum of all accessory types and everything has fantastic reliability and response.

The new HomeKit architecture just made things slightly better.

I think the real improved architecture is coming in 16.4. I upgraded to what was released as part of 16.2. It seemed ok at first but Siri on HomePod has been pretty bad. My Home app often doesn’t reflect the true status of devices. I’m definitely looking forward to the real upgrade!

this morning my newest HomePod mini left would not play while the other one sang.
a simple unplug and + tab helped.

but why?
